Top Questions

Overview

  • What is Sponsored Products?

Sponsored Products is an advertising program that helps you promote the products you list on Amazon.co.uk.

You choose which products you want to advertise, assign keywords to those products, and enter a cost-per-click bid. When an Amazon shopper searches for one of your keywords, your ad is eligible for display alongside the search results. You pay a fee for this program only when an Amazon shopper clicks on your ad, at which point the shopper is taken to the detail page where your offer is listed.

  • Why should I use Sponsored Products?
Sponsored Products gives you more control over product merchandising on Amazon.co.uk. Targeted ads help you boost the visibility of your products when shoppers search for keywords you bid on. You pay a fee for this program only when an Amazon shopper clicks on your ad and is taken to the detail page where your offer is listed.
  • Where will my ads be displayed?
Your ads are eligible for display in a variety of ad placements on Amazon.co.uk. As of March 1, 2013, all ad placements through the Sponsored Products program appear alongside search results. Over time the program may expand to other placements across Amazon.co.uk.
  • In what categories can I advertise my products?
Electronics & Photo, Music, Toys & Games, VHS, DIY & Tools, PC & Video Games, Software, Film & TV, Baby, Kitchen & Home, Garden & Outdoors, Health & Beauty, Computers & Accessories, Grocery, Jewellery, Pet Supplies, Sports & Outdoors, Stationery & Office Supplies, Watches, Car & Motorbike, Shoes & Accessories, Beauty, Large Appliances, Musical, Instruments & DJ and Lighting.
  • Will you display my ad if my offer listed on the detail page is not in the Buy Box?
No. Only ads for product listings that are in the Buy Box are eligible for display. If you create an ad for a product listing that is not in the Buy Box your ad will not display to Amazon shoppers. Ads that are not eligible for display are flagged in Campaign Manager under the ‘Advertising’ tab in Seller Central.

Pricing

  • How much does it cost?
Sponsored Products uses a cost-per-click, auction based pricing model. You set the maximum cost that you are willing to pay when a shopper clicks on an ad for your product. The more competitive your bid is, the more likely your ad will be displayed when an Amazon shopper searches for one of your keywords.
  • How do I pay for my Sponsored Products?
Sponsored Products is part of the Amazon Product Ads program. When you enable your seller account for Sponsored Products you must provide a valid credit card. Amazon.co.uk will charge your credit card for the cost associated with the clicks on your ads. Your credit card statement will display charges with a description of AMAZON PRODUCT ADS.
  • When do I get charged?

Sponsored Products is a post-pay program. This means that a balance will accrue in your account as your ads accumulate clicks. The frequency with which we charge your credit card depends on how much activity your account generates and the daily budget you've set.

After you enable your seller account for Sponsored Products, we will charge you when you accrue your first £1 of fees. This allows us to validate your credit card details. Thereafter, you will be given a £50 credit level, and we will charge your credit card within four days after the end of each calendar month and each time you reach £50 in fees. This means your credit card may be charged multiple times in a month, but no less than once a month.

If you consistently reach £50 in fees before the end of the calendar month, we may increase your credit level from £50 to £150. We may continue to adjust your credit level as appropriate based on your activity and daily budget up to a maximum credit level of £500.

  • How does the daily budget work?
You need to set a daily budget for each campaign for your ads to be displayed. The amount you enter is the average daily amount you are willing to spend over a calendar month. For example, if you set your daily budget at £100, you may receive up to £3,100 worth of clicks in that calendar month (assuming a full 31 day month). At the end of the month the average daily value of your advertising spend will not exceed your desired daily spend. However, on any given day you can spend less or more than your actual daily budget. For example, if your budget is £100 and you receive £50 worth of clicks on the 1st day of the month, you may receive up to £150 worth of clicks on the 2nd of the month. This would bring your total spend over 2 days to £200, which is in line with your daily budget.

Creating Ads

  • How do I create ads for my products?
With Sponsored Products you select the products you want to advertise from your existing listings on Amazon.co.uk. You then assign keywords to those products and set your cost-per-click bid. You will organize your ads into campaigns using Campaign Manager on the ‘Advertising’ tab in Seller Central. Campaigns allow you to track your results at the level of granularity that makes the most sense for your business.
  • How should I select which product listings to advertise?
Select the products that you want to promote on Amazon.co.uk. These may be products where you have a special offer or products that you want to display when shoppers search for a particular keyword.
  • In which Amazon categories can my ads appear?
Electronics & Photo, Music, Toys & Games, VHS, DIY & Tools, PC & Video Games, Software, Film & TV, Baby, Kitchen & Home, Garden & Outdoors, Health & Beauty, Computers & Accessories, Grocery, Jewellery, Pet Supplies, Sports & Outdoors, Stationery & Office Supplies, Watches, Car & Motorbike, Shoes & Accessories, Beauty, Large Appliances, Musical, Instruments & DJ and Lighting.
  • What is the landing page for my ads?
When shoppers click on your ad they will be taken to the Amazon detail page for the product that you are advertising.
  • If I advertise my product listing does that mean I automatically win the Buy Box?
No. Your ad is only eligible for display if your offer is already listed on the detail page in the Buy Box.
  • What products are not eligible for advertisement?
At this time we do not support adult products, used products, refurbished products, Books, Classical, Kindle Store and MP3 Music.
