In the past we learned how to find new keywords in the search term report of an automatic-targeting campaign. Your search term report is always a good source for new keywords because customers’ search terms and shopping trends vary over time. In addition to this, we want to give you a few more ideas to add new keywords to your campaigns and find the ones that better perform for your products. 

Build on Amazon's suggestions

In the past we learned how to find new keywords in the search term report of an automatic-targeting campaign. Your search term report is always a good source for new keywords because customers’ search terms and shopping trends vary over time. In addition to this, Amazon suggests relevant keywords for your products when creating a manual-targeting campaign.

If you're already using Amazon's suggestions and regularly checking the search term report to find new keywords, you can take these tools one step further to expand your campaigns. You can turn the keywords that you find into long-tail keywords by adding other words that are specific to your products (features, models, etc.) or your brands (Reebok shoes leather retro vs Reebok shoes). These keywords will generate less traffic than more generic keywords but could convert better and face less competition.

Learn from your customers

  • Look up your products on Amazon and different platforms. What are the different search terms you could use? Are your products discoverable with all of them? Think of the different approaches that a customer could take in their query: writing the name of the product, a brand, a model, a type of product, a specific feature...

  • To make your products discoverable for customers you should not only include appropriate keywords in your Sponsored Products campaigns but also reflect these terms in the product information of your listings. What information was important enough for you to include in the product title and description? What information are you leaving out?
  • Don’t forget the different word combinations and match types that can generate similar but nevertheless different keywords. Think also of adding synonyms as well as more generic or specific terms.
  • Finding new keywords is just the first step to grow your campaigns. If you want to test their potential you’ll have to allow them to generate enough impressions and clicks on your ads to see how they perform. You should use high-enough bids and budget for enough time to gather significant data. This can be troublesome, especially if you're testing a long list of keywords. If you can’t test them all at the same time try prioritising them. You can prioritise based on criteria such as the volume of searches you estimate they can generate or their similarity to your best performing keywords on Amazon or other platforms.

Make sure the keywords (words or phrases) you bid on determine the pages where your ads will be shown. Make sure that your product detail data, especially your product title, is as aligned as possible with your keywords. If Amazon determines that a keyword is not relevant to your product your ads will not receive impressions.

  1. This promotion is available only to Amazon Sponsored Products advertisers individually invited by Amazon to join it (the “Participants” or “you”).
  2. This promotion encompasses seven separate challenges that can be completed in any order and cumulatively, but which will need to be unlocked for you by Amazon throughout the Promotional Period (the “Challenges”). The Participants will be notified of the new unlocked Challenges available for them to complete through e-mails and/or Seller Central notifications.
  3. This promotion will start on 7th June, 2016 and will last until 5th August, 2016 (the “Promotional Period”). The Participants can complete the unlocked Challenges during the Promotional Period only.
  4. Once you complete a particular Challenge you cannot repeat it in the next weeks during the Promotional Period.
  5. Promotional free clicks credit obtained for completing particular unlocked Challenges will be granted every 2-weeks at latest by Friday of the following week.
  6. Except for in case of Challenge 7, each promotional free clicks credit will expire unless used by Monday on the second week after it was granted (unless we unilaterally extend the expiration date).  The promotional free clicks credit for Challenge 7 will expire unless used by the end of the following calendar quarter from the time it was granted.
  7. You must register and maintain an Amazon Sponsored Products account in good standing with Amazon.
  8. You are subject to the terms of the Amazon Services Europe Business Solutions Agreement.
  9. This offer is not for resale and is not redeemable for cash.
  10. This offer is void in the event of fraud, mistake, or any failure to satisfy any terms of the offer.
  11. Amazon Services Europe S.a.r.l reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate or modify this offer at any time (including in particular shortening or extending the Promotional Period).
  12. Amazon will determine all metrics required to complete particular Challenges solely based on its records & based on the following explanations:
    • Whenever ‘distinct’ or ‘unique’ products are mentioned in these Terms and Conditions we refer to individual SKUs.
    • Whenever an SKU needs to be ‘advertised’, it needs to be added to at least one active Amazon Sponsored Products advertising campaign in Seller Central.
    • Your SKUs are ‘eligible for Amazon Sponsored Products’ if they are winning the Buy-Box, you are selling them on Amazon and they are assigned to a product category that is open for Amazon Sponsored Products.
  13. The maximum promotional free clicks credit that can be obtained by Participants for successfully completing all Challenges during the Promotional Period is GBP 220 and is divided between particular Challenges as described below.

Challenge 1 – Create your first campaign and advertise 3 or more products

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  You need to create and launch your first Amazon Sponsored Products campaign, advertising at least 3 or more distinct products.  If you are not eligible to advertise at least 3 products using Amazon Sponsored Products you are not eligible to complete this Challenge.  We will determine whether you completed this Challenge on each Saturday during the Promotional Period.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 2 – Advertise 5% or more of your product catalogue

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  The number of advertised distinct products on amazon.co.uk as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period, divided by the total number of your distinct products on amazon.co.uk that were eligible for Amazon Sponsored Products campaigns at any point during the given week is at least 5% or higher.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 3 – Add 10 or more keywords

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  You need to create and launch at least one Amazon Sponsored Products campaign using manual targeting and set up 10 or more keywords in active campaign(s) using manual targeting.  We will determine whether you completed this Challenge on each Saturday during the Promotional Period.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 4 – Get the first 200 clicks

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  Your Amazon Sponsored Products campaigns need to receive at least 200 clicks from users i.e. cumulative click count of all your ads, as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period, needs to be 200 or higher. 
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 5 – Advertise 15% or more of your product catalogue

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  The number of advertised distinct products on amazon.co.uk as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period, divided by the total number of your distinct products on amazon.co.uk that were eligible for Amazon Sponsored Products campaigns at any point during the given week is at least 15% or higher.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 6 – Get your first 10 orders

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  The cumulative number of orders placed for your products by customers on amazon.co.uk within 1 week from clicking on one of your Amazon Sponsored Products ads reaches 10 or more, as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 7 – Spend your first GBP 200

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  Your cumulative advertising spend on Amazon Sponsored Products on amazon.co.uk, including any promotional free clicks credit you may have received, reaches GBP 200, as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period.
  2. Award: GBP 100 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 7 – Spend your first GBP 200
