We've already learned how to create, measure, expand and optimise your Sponsored Products campaigns while keeping ACoS (advertisign cost of sales) under control. It's time to look at some of the best practices to help you boost your sales.

Bid competitively

Bidding competitively on an ad group (for automatic campaigns) or a keyword (manual campaigns) plays a vital tole in winning more auctions and getting more exposure. You should experiment with different bids regularly and measure their impact on impressions, clicks, sales and spend. Here are some more specific tips on bidding:
  • Get your ads on the first page of search results. Having your ads on the first page of search results can increase your chances of generating sales for your products. You can use the ‘Estimated Page 1 bid’ as a guidance to set your bid. You can easily find this in campaign manager, next to your bids in manual campaigns, or in the Estimated Page 1 Bid report (Reports > Advertising Reports> Estimated Page 1 Bid).  Note that these amounts are only orientative, the final CPC needed to reach page one may change over time and vary depending on product relevance and other factors.

  • Maximize the performance of your keywords. Look for the keywords with low number of impressions in your manual-targeting campaigns. If they are relevant to your products (and maybe even have a low ACoS), try raising your bids for them. By raising the bid on them you will increase your odds of winning the auction, showing your product and ultimately being able to assess if it is indeed a keyword that yields sales and is worth investing on.
  • Generic vs targeted traffic. A common advertising strategy is to allocate competitive bids to the very specific keywords (where the conversion expected is high) and bid more conservatively on generic keywords. However, you can ponder whether it’s worth it to bid on generic keywords to give extra exposure to a product which is new, popular or has especially attractive for customers.

Structure your campaigns smartly

Make sure that campaigns with sales, low ACoS or a good click-through rate get impressions throughout the day and don’t exhaust their budget too early. You can see in Campaign Manager if any of your campaign have exhausted their budget. In some cases, it makes sense to extract your top-performing keywords to a dedicated campaign and allow it to run with a high budget.

Maximize sales for your products

Are you maximizing the sales for your products with the best advertisign potential? Check your Business Report and look for products with a high buy box percentage but relatively low glance views or low sales. Those are ideal products to experiment with and monitor closely.

High-quality product data

Aligning your keywords and the title and description of your products is vital for your Sponsored Products success. It is important that your product data is complete, accurate and related to the keyword. It is also important to have good titles and images for buyers to be motivated to click on your ad.

If you want to maximize your opportunity to display in the top of search results, you can use Bid+, a feature designed to help your eligible ads better compete to appear in this placement. When Bid+ is enabled, Amazon may adjust the maximum bids of the campaign(s) when ads are eligible to show in the top of search results.

To turn on Bid+ for existing campaigns, select a manually targeted campaign, and then go to Campaign Settings. Bid+ is not currently available for automatically-targeted campaigns.

  1. This promotion is available only to Amazon Sponsored Products advertisers individually invited by Amazon to join it (the “Participants” or “you”).
  2. This promotion encompasses seven separate challenges that can be completed in any order and cumulatively, but which will need to be unlocked for you by Amazon throughout the Promotional Period (the “Challenges”). The Participants will be notified of the new unlocked Challenges available for them to complete through e-mails and/or Seller Central notifications.
  3. This promotion will start on 7th June, 2016 and will last until 5th August, 2016 (the “Promotional Period”). The Participants can complete the unlocked Challenges during the Promotional Period only.
  4. Once you complete a particular Challenge you cannot repeat it in the next weeks during the Promotional Period.
  5. Promotional free clicks credit obtained for completing particular unlocked Challenges will be granted every 2-weeks at latest by Friday of the following week.
  6. Except for in case of Challenge 7, each promotional free clicks credit will expire unless used by Monday on the second week after it was granted (unless we unilaterally extend the expiration date).  The promotional free clicks credit for Challenge 7 will expire unless used by the end of the following calendar quarter from the time it was granted.
  7. You must register and maintain an Amazon Sponsored Products account in good standing with Amazon.
  8. You are subject to the terms of the Amazon Services Europe Business Solutions Agreement.
  9. This offer is not for resale and is not redeemable for cash.

  12. Amazon will determine all metrics required to complete particular Challenges solely based on its records & based on the following explanations:
    • Whenever ‘distinct’ or ‘unique’ products are mentioned in these Terms and Conditions we refer to individual SKUs.
    • Whenever an SKU needs to be ‘advertised’, it needs to be added to at least one active Amazon Sponsored Products advertising campaign in Seller Central.
    • Your SKUs are ‘eligible for Amazon Sponsored Products’ if they are winning the Buy-Box, you are selling them on Amazon and they are assigned to a product category that is open for Amazon Sponsored Products.
  13. The maximum promotional free clicks credit that can be obtained by Participants for successfully completing all Challenges during the Promotional Period is GBP 220 and is divided between particular Challenges as described below.

Challenge 1 – Create your first campaign and advertise 3 or more products

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  You need to create and launch your first Amazon Sponsored Products campaign, advertising at least 3 or more distinct products.  If you are not eligible to advertise at least 3 products using Amazon Sponsored Products you are not eligible to complete this Challenge.  We will determine whether you completed this Challenge on each Saturday during the Promotional Period.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 2 – Advertise 5% or more of your product catalogue

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  The number of advertised distinct products on amazon.co.uk as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period, divided by the total number of your distinct products on amazon.co.uk that were eligible for Amazon Sponsored Products campaigns at any point during the given week is at least 5% or higher.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 3 – Add 10 or more keywords

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  You need to create and launch at least one Amazon Sponsored Products campaign using manual targeting and set up 10 or more keywords in active campaign(s) using manual targeting.  We will determine whether you completed this Challenge on each Saturday during the Promotional Period.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 4 – Get the first 200 clicks

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  Your Amazon Sponsored Products campaigns need to receive at least 200 clicks from users i.e. cumulative click count of all your ads, as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period, needs to be 200 or higher. 
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 5 – Advertise 15% or more of your product catalogue

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  The number of advertised distinct products on amazon.co.uk as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period, divided by the total number of your distinct products on amazon.co.uk that were eligible for Amazon Sponsored Products campaigns at any point during the given week is at least 15% or higher.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 6 – Get your first 10 orders

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  The cumulative number of orders placed for your products by customers on amazon.co.uk within 1 week from clicking on one of your Amazon Sponsored Products ads reaches 10 or more, as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period.
  2. Award: GBP 20 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.

Challenge 7 – Spend your first GBP 200

  1. Eligibility Criteria:  Your cumulative advertising spend on Amazon Sponsored Products on amazon.co.uk, including any promotional free clicks credit you may have received, reaches GBP 200, as measured on any Saturday during the Promotional Period.
  2. Award: GBP 100 free clicks promotional credit on amazon.co.uk.
