Succesful Advertising Challenge: Get Clicks

Increase the traffic and the visibility of your products on Amazon.co.uk

Here are some strategies you can use to get a better return on your advertising spend, increase your sales and the traffic to your products or make it to the first page of search results. The combination of them and a regular monitoring and optimization will have the best effect on your campaigns.

I want to improve my ACoS (Advertising Cost of Sales)

  • Know what works for your products
Sort the ACoS column in Campaign Manager or in your reports in a descending order. This will allow you to spot quickly the campaigns, ad groups or keywords where the AcoS is too high and improvement is needed. It will also allow you to find the top-performing campaigns, ad groups or keywords, that is, where the AcoS is the lowest. Try to identify the factors that contribute to the success of those campaigns, ad groups, etc. with low ACoS (they can be a combination of relevant keywords, accurate bids and sufficient budget) and transfer the learnings to the ones with high ACoS.
  • Optimise keywords & bids

    • When you identify keywords with a high ACoS in Campaign Manager or your reports, you can ask yourself how closely related to your product they are. If they are relevant, consider setting the match type to exact to get only traffic that you’re confident will be meaningful. If they are not, consider pausing them.
    • If you are bidding on generic keywords ("shoes"), try being more specific ("men's leather shoes"). Bidding on more specific keywords will likely make the number of impressions decrease but you can get better conversion, lower CPCs and face less competition.
    • Are you bidding too low on the keywords with the most potential for your products? You might not be winning as many auctions for your best-performing keywords as you could. Consider increasing your bids gradually and monitor the effects until you hit the spot where you maximize the effect of your spend.
    • Add negative keywords to your campaigns to avoid your ads being triggered for irrelevant search terms.
  • Use your budget wisely
Do your best campaigns use up their budget too soon? If your budget doesn't allow your campaigns to show ads during the whole day you should consider increasing it. If you have a limit for your budget it may be worth it shifting budget from a worse-performing campaign.

  • Don't neglect product information
The quality of your product data (title, description, attributes...) and its relevance to the keyword matter. For example, receiving a lot of traffic but not generating sales is a good indicator that the offer didn’t match customers’ expectations. Review your product data, make sure it’s complete, accurate and that it includes potential keywords.

I want to increase sales

  • Bid competitively
If your priority is to drive more sales on a certain keyword or ad group you should consider bidding more aggressively to win more auctions, be shown more often and at a better position in search results.
  • Add new, relevant keywords
Adding more keywords to your manual campaigns can be a good way to increase sales. You can start with the keywords that Amazon suggests for your SKUs when creating a manual-targeting campaign. You don’t have to limit yourself to those exact keywords though, take them as a starting point to think about other search terms that you would use as a customer.

  • Monitor your budget
Make sure your campaigns never run out of budget throughout the day. If you use an account level budget, make sure that this is also coherent with the budget of your campaigns.

I want to increase traffic

  • Create automatic campaigns
Running an automatic-targeting campaign is the best way to uncover traffic that you might be missing on, such as the traffic from keywords you haven't found yet or new search trends.

  • Broaden your match types
Another option to increase the traffic to your products would be setting up a new ad group or campaign with keywords that you know work for you but using a broader match type instead.

I want my ads to appear on the first page of search results

  • Increase bids
Bids are one of the factors that determine the position in which your ad appears. If your ads are not making it to the first page, your bids might not be competitive enough. The Estimated Bid for Page 1 indicator can be a good indicator to help determine your bid.

If you are interested in displaying your ads at the top of search results and your maximum bid is flexible, we recommend you enable the Bid+ feature (see tip on the right).

  • Focus on relevance
In addition to bids, the relevance of your product to the keyword and the customer search term plays an important role in making it to page one, especially the top placements.

To help you maximize your opportunity to display in the top of search results, we introduced Bid+, a feature designed to help your eligible ads better compete to appear in this placement. When Bid+ is enabled, Amazon may adjust the maximum bids of the campaign(s) when ads are eligible to show in the top of search results.

To turn on Bid+ for existing campaigns, select a manually targeted campaign, and then go to Campaign Settings. Bid+ is not currently available for automatically targeted campaigns.
